STATISTICS UNDERSTATED
The official rate of bullying in South African schools is one of the highest in the world at 51% as reported by the former Minister of Basic Education in the video below.
Factoring in the learners tendancy not to report incidents or to report them to the wrong people, as indicated in this graphic, the actual rate of bullying is sadly, far higher than what is accepted as the officiall figure.
EFFECTS OF BULLYING
Studies have shown that the real effects of bullying and school violence can be devestating to our kids, mentally, emotionally and physically; and can even take a toll on academic results. Chronic ongoing abuse can result in permanent negative behavioral patterns that can last into adulthood and follow victims into the workplace.
COMBATING BULLYING
What can be done to deter and combat bullying while protecting and supporting the victims?
Communication
Provide a safe, direct channel of communication for victims and whistleblowers.
Protection
Safeguard victims/whistleblowers and build confidence with 100% anonymity in reporting.
Support
Respond proactively by investigating every reported incident thoroughly and taking appropriate action.
Management
Analyse all incidents, identify patterns or trends and mitigate against the problem to minimise recurrence.
THE SOLUTION
The Bravely system is an integrated web/mobile application designed to provide a safe, 100% anonymous channel of communication between learners and school administrators. Where victims and whistleblowers can confidently report incidents of unaccptable behaviour via their mobile phone and administrators can investigate all aspects of a reported incident using the management dashboard, bring it to finality and archive all information for the record and future analysis.
MOBILE REPORTING TOOL
Our 100% anonymous, user-friendly mobile application offers users a direct, safe and secure voice to communicate with their school administrator and report incidence of unacceptable or unlawful behaviour.
These reports, which can include text, images, audio or video, can be used to anonymously communicate incidents of:
- Bullying
- Cyber Bullying
- Harassment
- Violence
- Alcohol/Drug related Issues
- Hazing
- Cheating
MANAGEMENT DASHBOARD
Each organisation will operate a unique online dashboard where one or more administrators can receive and respond to incoming reports from anonymous mobile users, gather all relevant information and manage a comprehensive investigation before closing and archiving the data for the record or future analysis.
